Scrap Hound

A few things you should know about me:
  1. I have 2 dogs--Otto and Riley. Sometimes they go by stinky butt and obnoxious dog. But I love them.
  2. Between Michie Lee and me, we generate a lot of fabric scraps...like to the point where our scrap buckets are overflowing and we have to throw away selvedges and anything under 1" wide.
    1. I hate taking out the trash.
    2. Riley just ate his bed.
    3. I procrastinate things I should be doing (like finishing by syllabus and reading that article on Sophists for Monday's class) by doing other things...like cooking or sewing or taking the dog on a run. I'm not your veg-out kinda girl.
So...now that all of that has been said, my flavor of procrastination this morning was inspired by Riley's new, bigger, and better kennel (he is a growing boy, after all). Since he ate his bed a few weeks ago, I thought it fit to make him a new one...one that he wouldn't eat (aka: one without fluff). I started digging through the trash to find all those teeny tiny scraps we've thrown away recently including the back half of a sweatshirt I cut out for a friend's t-shirt quilt (thanks Emily!). Luckily I had a bunch of canvas hidden in the back of the fabric closet (try to eat through that, alligator mouth).
So...I cut out a chunk of canvas, serged it together, stuffed it with scraps, and look out john dandy...Riley's got a new bed and I don't have to take out the trash. Hopefully soon I will actually stitch together a nice little cover for it so that I can toss that in the wash after those particularly muddy days at the dog park.
Eh...I'll get there...after I finish my syllabus, read this article, quilt my sister's quilt, finish the t-shirt quilt, clean the house....
But in the meantime, he's pretty freaking cute on his little bed.
